The fast bowler Expected to Feature a Key Part in Iconic Rivalry

Pat Cummins bowling

The pace bowler has taken 309 wickets in 71 appearances with an average of 22.10.

The Australian chief selector the selector has declared that pace spearhead Cummins will have a crucial role in the upcoming Ashes series.

Speculation had been growing that Cummins might miss the series due to a persistent back stress problem that had not yet healed.

Initial reports from the Australian camp suggested no definitive call had been made regarding his involvement, with the Test matches set to start on 21 November in Perth.

Bailey expressed that Cummins is "building up" and felt positive about the likelihood of participating.

"We know that the window is narrowing and various factors involved, aside from the physical problem, but further aspects," he commented.

"The outlook is good. [We are] really confident that he will feature a significant role. With luck from the opening match. Otherwise, then we'll pick it up."

Past Concerns

Cummins was ruled out the ODI and T20 games against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals recently after examinations confirmed a stress reaction in his back.

Previous incidents include of spinal problems, with recurrences in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2015-16 causing him to miss multiple domestic campaigns in a short span.

Cummins stated he would be bold in recovery efforts in his recovery plan to ensure his availability for the series.

He mentioned that it was unclear if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his comeback but conceded it was "becoming urgent" for him to be fit for the first Test.

Contingency Plans

In case of absence, former captain Steve Smith will assume leadership.

Versatile player Green was excluded lately from Australia's squad for their ODI contests against the Asian giants as a safety move because of an abdominal issue.

Bailey described it as a "slight concern and mentioned that he'll feature in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "ideally positioned to deliver overs."

"Extensive planning has gone into building out the plan for him to participate for the first Test as an dual-role player," the selector detailed.

"His involvement was limited to the starting games anyway. The way he swings the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, if it causes any delay for a short period, the choice was made to adopt a safer strategy."
